Wildfire Model For this mini project, we created miniature forest models with matches to represent trees, and tested different forest components that affected wildfires. My group studied how moisture affects the spread of wildfires by creating models with different amounts of moisture in each one. One model had very dried soil and no moisture, one had a little moisture, and wet soil, and the third had very wet soil and water was sprayed over it to replicate recent rain. The model with no moisture burned about 60%, the model with little moisture burned 13%, and the model with lots of moisture burned 4%. This result showed that the more moisture there is in a forest, the smaller fires in that forest will be.
