Project Question: What determines the period of a pendulum?
Unit reflection: This unit was based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe. The story tells of a man who is tied at the bottom of a pit, and has a little over a minute to escape before a 30 foot long pendulum slices through his chest and kills him. We had to find out if he could actually escape in time, by determining what affects the period of a pendulum. We found that the length of the pendulum is what affects the swing time, so with a 30 foot pendulum, we were able to accurately determine that the main character indeed has enough time to escape. I really liked this unit, especially how it can somewhat be applied to a real world scenario.
